General Rules of Road Safety Education Program

The Road Safety Education Program is divided into 4 phases. Phase 1 includes theory classes. Starting phase 2, there will be an alternation of theory and driving lessons. The total package is composed of 24 hours of theory and 15 in-car sessions. The program’s teaching aid is here below:

General Rules of Road Safety Education Program

Class Modules

Each module lasts approximately 2 hours. It includes the time required for signing the student’s record and making announcements at the beginning of the class, the break time and the recap at the end. Theory lessons generally include:

✓ One or two activities that involve certain competencies relating to the module’s topic.
✓ The dissemination of road safety content related to the module.
✓ If time allows, a video and/or short presentation of video clips relating to driving lessons, in phases 2, 3 and 4.

 

Driving lessons

Each in-car session should last 55 minutes. It includes the “Briefing” at the beginning and the “Debriefing” at the end of the driving lesson.

 

Learning phases

Phase 1 – Prior to the learner’s license

✓ 10 hours of class (5 modules), 2 hours each once per week.
✓ Phase 1 is to be spread over a minimum of 28 days.
✓ Module 5 includes a review of the first 4 modules and a knowledge test.

To obtain the certificate which confirms successful completion of Phase 1, the student must have attended modules 1 to 4 and passed the theory test of Module 5.

 

Phase 2 – Guided Driving

✓ 2 theory modules about Accompanied Driving and OEA Strategy as well as 4 driving lessons.
✓ Should last a minimum of 28 days.

 

Phase 3 – Semi – Guided Driving

✓ 3 theory modules about Speed, Sharing the road, Alcohol and Drugs.
✓ 6 driving lessons out of which 2 are evaluations on the road.
✓ Should last a minimum of 56 days.

 

Phase 4 – Semi-Guided to Independent Driving

✓ 2 theory modules about Fatigue and Distractions and Eco-driving as well as 5 driving lessons out of which the last one would be the final evaluation at the school before the driving exam at the license bureau.
✓ In-car sessions 12 and 13 are combined to make two driving lessons of 55 minutes each with 2 students in the vehicle. Each learner will drive for 1 hour and observe during the other hour.
✓ Should last a minimum of 56 days.

To obtain the certificate that confirms successful completion of the program, students must have completed all theory and driving lessons and passed the final evaluation at the driving school.
